N-Day plus 7

What day is it today? Whew, what a whirlwind. Well, here we are and Noah is already a week old (sorry for being 2+ days late). I first have to say how utterly amazing the last 7+ days have been. It's been an incredible rollercoaster of emotions---most of them being the happiest moments of my life. It's been challenging too, as we were expecting. But no number of stories and warnings from friends and families can prepare you for the difficulties and stresses of "teaching" a newborn to eat, of digesting volumes of very important information and tips in a short time, or just fuctioning at a safe level while being extremely sleep deprived. The journey will be long and winding, and I'm looking forward to taking every step. It's hard to describe the transformation that has occured in the last week, but that has been equally incredible. Sadie has been an angel and I can't express (via a blog anyway) how great of a mom she is going to be. A few minutes after Noah was born, I got to bring him over to see her, and her eyes lit up in a way I've never seen before. Equally compelling is the way she looks into Noah's eyes during all those late night moments--such incredible patience. We're already well on our way down this windy little road, but I can't help but try to look ahead to see what kind of scenery is coming up. Soon enough, I guess. Until then, I'll try to get some shut-eye.

PS; although Sadie and I may not have been able to express it, THANK YOU for all the notes, voicemails, phone calls, visits, dog-walks, food, and baby presents. It's incredibly heart-warming to remember how many good people we are surrounded by. Thank-you.
