A Friday off, summer officially begins, and Grandma's is here.

It doesn't get much better having a Friday off in the summer---and summer days don't get much more beautiful than today. (Thats Bosco and I out front--blogging on the front step...Bosco keeping his eye on the transportation...he knows we're going somewhere!) I wish we were already up north. I'm actually crossing my fingers for some frigid weather up north though. Cool weather between 7:30am and approximately 10:40am--Saturday only-- to be precise. Tomorrow is the big running judgement day---Grandma's Marathon is here. So here we are, 18 weeks of preparation and it comes down to one little race. Every year's training takes on such a different tone, and this year is no exception. For the most part--this year's training went pretty darn well considering all the busy-ness in the LaFrance household. About a month and a half ago I had a semi-major training hitch---an achilles issue--but I'm successfully running on it again (Thanks to PT advice from a good friend as well as a cousin). It bothers me once in awhile, but not too bad. Taking three weeks off in the height of the program annoys me a little more. But what can you do? Legs don't always take well to banging on the pavement for 4.5 months. Weather report says it's going to be about 68-70 degrees around the time I finish.... 90% humidity at start and dropping to 50%. Chance of thunderstorms an hour into the race---a stiff breeze out of the west-northwest (headwind). Not horrible weather---but I'm not a huge fan of humidity. Race day has a way of washing all those worries away though--just sitting here typing I'm getting more and more excited. The racing shoes are ready, GU, body glide all ready too--we're ready to go. The best part of a marathon though is the people you get to run with along the way---every year I've met someone new and even ran into people I knew on the way down the course--this year should be no different in that respect either. Here's hoping for a successful race. Hope everyone enjoys their first official weekend of summer!
